Types of Bob Haircuts, Explained
“Bob” covers a family of cuts that all sit somewhere between the ear and the collarbone. The differences come from length, the angle at the front, and whether there are layers.
Classic and blunt bobs
A classic bob is roughly chin length, often with a slight forward angle. A blunt bob keeps all the hair one length with a sharp perimeter and no layering.
A-line and graduated bobs
An A-line bob is shorter at the back and longer at the front. A graduated bob adds stacked layers at the back for volume.
The lob
A “long bob” hits around the collarbone. It is the most forgiving version and the easiest to grow out, which is why it is often the first step people take toward a shorter cut.
